Artist Statement

My paintings explore the experiences of immigrants—feelings of displacement, uncertainty, and the search for belonging. I work with a mix of control and spontaneity, letting shapes and figures emerge naturally. The figures I paint are grounded in reality but placed in abstract, undefined spaces. This approach resonates with my own narrative as an immigrant, an outsider, a story marked by detachment, displacement, and the continuous negotiation of unknown spaces. I focus on the shared emotions of those who have had to adapt, rebuild, and find their way in new places.

I want viewers to feel the tension between the familiar and the unknown—to recognize the fragility of human connection and the resilience to keep moving forward. My work isn’t about answers, but questioning what it means to belong. How do we carry our past into what is at hand? And how do we find our footing when the ground keeps shifting?
